In the draft plan, announced on Friday (19/10), Yahoo said that the move was an effort to streamline operations. And, would focus existing resources on building a stronger global business, for the growth of long-term success. Yahoo also revealed that businesses in Korea is growing challenge over the last few years, which makes business more difficult to scale.
For information, Yahoo units in South Korea has been operating since 1997, with about 200 employees who handle editorial content and advertising. The unit is known to fight very hard against local rivals, such as Naver and Daum.
Currently Yahoo states have no plans to leave the rest of Asia. And, Yahoo believes that the Asia-Pacific region has the potential for a solid business.
In order to know the seriousness Yahoo to restructure its business, the company has hired former Google executives, Marissa Mayer as CEO in July, which is the third CEO in the last year. Marissa is known to have made a series of changes to boost Yahoo's business. Among raising new finance chief, Ken Goldman, and the head of marketing, Henrique de Castro.
